Monday’s Get-Going Song – Honey Sweet by Blossoms

Hi, again! So last week was the Mercury Awards 2017 and if you didn’t see who won check out my blog from Friday, but this track comes from one of the 12 nominated albums Blossoms by Blossoms. To listen to Honey Sweet

The Stockport quintet formed in 2013 and have gone on to have an absolutely AMAZING 2016-17. In 2015 they released their debut single You Pulled A Gun On Me which demonstrated their new-found Brit-Pop sound filled with guitar, the success of this single was soon followed bye two singles Blow and Cut Me and I’ll Bleed. This was also the year they released two EP’s Charlemagne and Blown Rose, then in February 2016 they released At Most A Kiss following exposure with their two previous EP’s. In March 2016 the band announced their debut album Blossoms, this album was released in summer 2016 which charted in the UK at Number 1. The album some criticism for it’s “disjointed sound” and for sounding “remarkably like something that charted in 1986”.

Despite criticism the album evidently wasn’t as bad as all the critics said as this month it received a Mercury Prize nomination, a high honour for any debut. This video, for anyone unfamiliar with the band, consist of all the members Stranger Things-ing it and riding around in search of a DeLorean! This track has been dubbed a “love letter to Stranger Things and Stockport’, the Stockport thing I get but the Stranger Things I’m so sure of (surely the track came first?!?).

I hope you like the track and maybe you now know who Blossoms are! let me know any thoughts on the video, track, whatever and I’ll try to get back to you 🙂

Guitar Girl signing off xx
