Hiya! Today, 27/11/2017, the BBC Sound Of 2018 Award Longlist was announced and it is packed with amazing new acts that look like they’re sure to a bright future in music. The Sound Of Award has produced some amazing stars such as Adele, Sam Smith and Years & Years among others with it’s aim being to showcase the biggest rising stars in music.
So the acts on the longlist are…
21 year old Finnish singer Alma has had amazing success in 2017, with the release of her single Chasing Highs charting at Number 10 in Finland and entering the top 20 after release in the UK.
Billie Eilish is the competitions youngest ever nominee aged 15 but has already had more success than most of us will have in our lives! In 2015 she began releasing original material on SoundCloud with her brother and in 2017 released her debut EP, don’t smile at me.
I’d love to be able to give you information about IAMDDB but I really can’t find anything, however if anyone has any bio information I’d love to know anything about her.
Jade Bird is a British country artist who released her debut EP in July this year. She has recently opened for First Aid Kit and Son Little. If you’re interested in more information about her then click here.
Khalid has sprung into the music over the past 2 years when his debut single Location reached Number 16 in the US Billboard Charts. Since then his single Young, Dumb & Broke has gained him much deserved recognition and his feature and the Marshmello record Silence has only increased this.
Lewis Capaldi is a 21 year old Scottish singer-songwriter who recently released his debut EP Bloom. He’s due to support Rag ‘n’ Bone Man on his 2017 tour and has received support from the likes of Ellie Goulding and Niall Horan. For more information click here.
This is another artist lacking a bio so again if anyone has any information about her I’d love to hear from you!
Hailing from Hackney, London Not3s has had a love of music since he was 4 and rose to overnight fame with his viral hit Addison Lee. He recently released his debut album Take Not3s.
Pale Waves 5th
Pale Waves are the pop new comers from Manchester guaranteed to be in playlist next year. They worked with Matty Healy (of the 1975) on their first two singles and signed to his label Dirty Hit to realise their album (which hopefully be soon!)
Rex Orange County 2nd
Self taught musician released his self recorded debut album in 2015 after finding he was quite at writing his own songs. He followed this release with his singles UNO (2016) and Best Friend (2017). P.S Apologies for any explicit language!
Sorry, but yet another one who I can’t really any background or bio information for so I’ll put out another offer for any information about him!
Swedish singer Sigrid is one my 2017 music highlights, out of the blue she came with her smash hit debut Don’t Kill My Vibe! She performed at Glastonbury Festival and then Reading Festival so it’s no surprise she made the longlist. For more information click here.
Super band Superorganism appeared this with their quirky pop track Something For Your M.I.N.D which then rapidly disappeared from the internet. This giant band met on the internet and then brought themselves from all over the globe to create cracking pop tunes which use the much unused instrument of the tambourine.
Tom Walker is a Mancunian singer-songwriter who made the BBC Brit List in mid 2017 and now the Sound Of list! his new single Leave the Light On was produced by Steve Mac who also produced Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You and What About Us by P!nk. For more information click here.
The unmistakable sound of Yaeji whispering her unusual track. The rapper, DJ and producer slips between Korean and English effortlessly in her songs bringing a unique element to her style.
Yxng Bane is a English rapper and singer hailing from East London. He’s probably best known for his feature on the Top 10 single Bestie.
Keep posted from the 8th of January onwards to find out the Top 5 of Sound Of 2018 or listen to Radio 1 to find out.
